CENTURY DANCE
First composition on the banjo inspired by this gifted 1921 century old instrument...With help from musical friends...._/\_...
Knew nothing about the banjo except , simply grown to love that sound that is part of the American history and cultural landscape. I can't help but wonder this instrument's journey across the century., who else might have owned and played it.
The world was much simpler then. To tell a story, I borrowed images I could peruse through the web for a visual narrative traveling though the decades, as cultures evolved, as did technology, fashion, music, and yes ..dance. Hence the title. It's perhaps a narrow snapshot, but life has a way of circling back , through ebbs and tides.
It's a nostalgic reminiscence of the past and reflection of the present.
I recently heard somewhere, making art is a form of prayer. I deemed this musing a sum of the parts.
Thanks to Marcel Berteaux, Robert Herzbrun, Gordy Ohliger, Hoytus Rolen, Peder Liljequist, and John Pedone.
Here's our simple offering , Century Dance..
